 Fire Rated Ceiling Air Valve – Supply & Extract (100mm, 125mm, 150mm & 200mm)

Fire Rated Ceiling Air Valves are used where ventilation openings pass through fire-rated ceilings or floor constructions. They are designed to maintain the fire resistance of the structure by automatically sealing the air valve opening in the event of a fire, reducing the spread of heat and smoke between fire compartments.

These valves look and install like standard ceiling air valves, with no impact on airflow during normal operation, but provide critical fire protection when it matters.

When Should a Fire Rated Air Valve Be Used?

Fire rated air valves should be used whenever an air valve is installed in a ceiling or floor that has a fire resistance rating, including:

  • Apartments and multi-occupancy residential buildings
  • Hotels, student accommodation, and care facilities
  • Buildings with fire compartmentation requirements
  • Any fire-rated floor or ceiling separating rooms or storeys

Installing a standard (non-fire-rated) air valve in a fire-rated ceiling can compromise the fire barrier. A fire rated air valve prevents this risk by automatically sealing the opening during a fire.

How the Fire Rated Valve Works

Each valve contains integral intumescent material.
In normal conditions, airflow passes through the valve as expected.
In a fire situation, the intumescent material rapidly expands when exposed to high temperatures, sealing the valve opening and helping to preserve the fire resistance rating of the ceiling or floor.

Key Features

  • Fire-rated recessed ceiling air valve
  • Integral intumescent fire-sealing technology
  • Automatically seals in high-temperature fire conditions
  • Maintains fire compartmentation
  • Airflow unaffected during normal use
  • No maintenance required after installation
  • Recommended visual inspection: minimum every 12 months

Sizes & Airflow Options

  • Available diameters: 100mm, 125mm, 150mm & 200mm
  • Available for:
    • Supply air
    • Extract air

Installation

  • Installed in the same manner as a standard ceiling air valve
  • No special tools or commissioning required
  • Compatible with common residential and commercial ductwork systems

Typical Applications

  • Domestic housing
  • Apartments and flats
  • Hotels and hospitality buildings
  • Commercial and public buildings
  • Any project where fire-rated ceilings or floors are present

📸 Images may show both supply and extract models.

  • Supply valves have an exverted (outward-facing) dome to direct air into the space
  • Extract valves have an inverted (inward-facing) dome to optimise air removal

Please ensure the correct airflow type is selected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a fire rated air valve?
If your ceiling or floor has a fire resistance rating, a fire rated air valve is typically required to avoid compromising fire compartmentation.

Does a fire rated valve reduce airflow?
No. Airflow performance is unaffected during normal operation. The valve only seals in fire conditions.

Does the valve require maintenance?
No routine maintenance is required, but a visual inspection should be carried out at least every 12 months.
